Spectrum Environmental’s 2023 “Year In Review”

Spectrum on the way to a job site

Every January, most of us spend some time looking back at the previous year. For some of us, that’s because we’re getting ready to file income tax documents. For others, it’s a chance to review some of the things that could have gone better or differently, and then set new goals for the future. Here at Spectrum Environmental Services, we think it’s a chance to celebrate some of our accomplishments over the past year, as well as to set new goals for the year ahead of us!

Spectrum Environmental Services is first and foremost a service company dedicated to the goal of helping others manage their relationship with the environment. We do that by providing solutions to complex environmental challenges. Our consultants, industrial, waste management, and sustainable solutions teams are the keys to making this happen. With that in mind, here’s a sampling of what our employees were able to accomplish in 2023.

Employees on our industrial teams visited clients throughout the US to perform a variety of turnaround, unique cleaning, and coating/painting projects. In doing so, they managed more than 3,300 tons of hazardous waste for our clients and helped provide recycling and sustainable solutions for over 130,000 gallons of used oil.

Our drivers logged just under 1,000,000 DOT miles across eleven states in support of our industrial teams, transporting various materials from their point of origin to permitted treatment, recycling, and disposal facilities around the country. Put that into perspective: that’s two complete trips to the moon and back…or if you want to stay “local” you could just drive in circles around the earth’s circumference 39 times!

Our consulting team stayed busy providing stream and wetland delineations on more than 10,000 acres (an area about half the size of Manhattan)! They also performed over 400 Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, helping to protect prospective landowners from post-purchase environmental concerns.

Spectrum consulting field teams planted over 5, 300 trees as part of multiple streamside mitigation projects. These trees help to stabilize soil and clean the air. Once these trees reach maturity, each will generate a day’s supply of oxygen for up to four people. That’s adds up to 21,200 people’s (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) worth of oxygen each day! In addition, these trees will absorb 115 tons of carbon dioxide each year at maturity! And Spectrum’s stormwater group tallied a whopping 3,500 site inspections, helping builders, developers, and contractors maintain compliance and protect important surface water resources.

Our Sustainable Solutions team worked to process over over 556,000 gallons of oily water resulting in recycling just under 60,000 gallons of used oil and cleaned almost 10,000 tons of oil absorbents and returned them to clients for re-use. They also recycled over 6 tons of universal waste, including 2,800 pounds of fluorescent tubes!

At Spectrum Environmental Services, we take pride in our work – it’s an awesome feeling knowing that every day, we make a difference for our customers and the environment! We’re looking forward to doing even more in 2024, so if you have an environmental challenge that you need help with, contact us today!
